For our Production Manufacturing team, a field trip to visit one of our clients gave them an insight into the end-use of a product they manufacture.
The team manufacture tree harvesting heads for the forestry industry. The harvester bodies are fabricated and sub-assembled at Page Macrae Engineering before being shipped to our client.
The trip to Southstar Equipment in Rotorua, followed by a visit to one of their largest New Zealand clients, took the team through the journey of one of our products – from manufacture and assembly to its end users out in the field.
In the Rotorua assembly plant, the team saw the final assembly of the tree harvesting heads. This is where componentry such as hydraulics and sensors are fitted, and the equipment is programmed ready for use.
In Kaingaroa Forest, they saw the tree harvesters in action at a processing operation, then at a thinning operation.
They demonstrated a harvester processing the felled trees, delimbing, debarking and categorising the logs into the correct length ready for transport to their client.
“We had an awesome day. Being able to see the machines working and the hammering they get was great”, said Neil, a Production Manufacturing team member, “It needs to be a tough product!”
General Manager of Production & Manufacturing, Kayden Jacobsen commented, “The trip gave the team an immense sense of pride seeing the gear they produce in action. We’d like to thank both Southstar Equipment and their client for hosting us for the day”.
