Page Macrae Log Lifters load logs for export at the port in Tauranga.
Logs are brought to the port by road and rail from New Zealand’s upper North Island forestry blocks where they have been felled and graded. Logs are moved to the berth from a nearby railyard using mobile grapples, slung by wharf staff and loaded onto the ship using Page Macrae Log lifters.
Logs are lifted in bundles of up to 32 tonnes per lift, the plunger mechanism releasing the cables and enabling the log lifter to complete cycle after cycle. Once aboard, logs are adjusted on deck with grapples to ensure a balanced ship throughout the log loading operation.
