Ngatamariki 88Mw Geothermal Power Station

We were awarded the geothermal piping construction contract by ORMAT for Mighty River Power’s 88MW Ngatamariki Binary Power Station, near Taupo.

This project was the fourth geothermal power station that we have had a major involvement in since 2007 (Kawerau, Nga Awa Purua and Te Mihi).

We have also been involved with several other related projects in the central north island geothermal basin with both Contact Energy and Mighty River Power.

Te Mihi 166Mw Geothermal Power Station

The Te Mihi geothermal power station constructed northwest of Taupo, will replace older parts of the existing 53-year-old Wairakei geothermal power station, which will eventually be taken out of commission.

We were contracted as the head mechanical contractors for the MSP JV (McConnell Dowell, SNS Lavalin and Parsons Brinkerhoff Joint Venture).

We carried out off site fabrication of 1500T of pressure pipe  and site installation, FRP piping installation, mechanical installation of 2x 83Mw Toshiba Steam Turbine Generator’s and mechanical installation of balance of plant.

This has been one of the largest projects that Page Macrae Engineering has undertaken on site and our success can be attributed to the management of the project and our onsite team.

Kawerau Geothermal Power Station, LP Brine Line Replacement

This project involved additions and modifications to the existing HP and LP Brine Line at Mighty River Power’s Kawerau Geothermal Power Station, including sections of the line being replaced.

We were responsible for the engineering, project management and shut planning, health and safety, quality and environmental systems and process outcomes, mechanical works, control of electrical works, civil, structural and architectural works.  The HP Brine Line piping to the LP Separators was manufactured from Carbon Steel and Super Duplex SS.  The project also included the installation of isolation valves on the LP steam and brine lines and the installation of a Rupture Disk Station and access platform.

This project was completed on schedule due to the high level of planning and organisation, allowing our client to get back online on time.  The joint team effort of Page Macrae and Mighty River Power staff was a huge factor in the successful outcome of this project.

We are very proud of our involvement with this and are pleased to have been able to produce such a pleasing outcome for our client, exceeding their expectations.
